How to care for hair extensions

Aftercare for your Extensions

Now you have that beautiful long thick hair you have always wanted, here’s a few things you may need to know.

Your new hair will last between 3 - 6 months, however the exact amount of time will depend on YOU, and how you care for them.

Following the below guidelines will ensure you get the maximum usage from your extensions.

Regular maintenance appointments will keep your extensions looking their best.

You must be prepared to spend longer styling your hair now you have hair extensions, they take more time and effort and will need to be

looked after correctly to prolong the life of your new hair. But its worth the extra time and effort.

** REMEMBER HAIR EXTENSIONS ARE HIGH MAINTENANCE **

Your new extensions may cause some discomfort for the first week as you are adjusting to the extra weight and thickness. This could

include scalp tenderness, itching or mild headache. The first few nights may also be uncomfortable, but this soon passes. In the first few

weeks you may lose the odd extension or possibly experience some shedding while the extensions are settling down, but this is normal

and does settle down.

Your extensions are 100% human hair, so can be colored, cut and styled with the use of hairdryers, curling irons or straighteners.

Maintenance is advised every 6-8 weeks. The exact amount of time will depend on how the extensions have been cared for and your own

hair growth. The maintenance will consist of moving all strands or some strands especially around the hair line back up to the root,

putting back in your lost strands, replacing any micro rings where necessary and general tidying up of all bonds.

Do’s and Don’ts’s

DO Brush your hair extensions on a regular basis to ensure they do not tangle and keep looking its best, while holding tight on the base

just beyond the bonds to minimize the pulling tension that may causing extensions to slip-out, especially when the hair is wet

One of the most important safety feature if the NANO BONDING! The bond will slip-out in the case of extra strain so to

minimizing breakage.

DO Ensure you thoroughly rinse all traces of shampoo and conditioner after washing your hair.

DO Invest in a good extension brush and an extension detangling comb.

DO Be extremely gentle with your extensions at all times.

DO Keep extensions tied up during swimming (both pool and sea) , if you do get your hair wet you must ensure you rinse out any

chlorine or sea water as soon as possible as they can cause your extensions to dry out, in the same way they dry out your own natural

hair.

DO Tie your extensions back at night, preferably a loose braid or pony tails to minimize any tangles in the morning.

DON’T tie your hair back to tightly, this can pull on the bonds causing them to weaken.

DONT put conditioner onto the roots of your hair

DON’T use any of the following: HOT OILS, ANTI-DANDRUFF SHAMPOOS or HEAD LICE TREATMENTS, these are extremely harsh and can

cause damage to the condition of your extensions and the bonds causing them to loosen.

And lastly.........Enjoy it..... you now have beautiful long thick full hair !!!!

Your scalp may feel tender and this may cause a mild headache – in some instances the extra weight can cause your scalp to itch, but

any discomfort should dissipate over the first few days of the hair extensions being attached.

If you’re using micro ring hair extensions, then they can last up to 14 weeks.

As hair grows about a centimeter a month hair can look quite clumpy by that time, so you may want to remove them sooner rather than

later – 8 – 10 weeks is optimum. How long your micro loop hair extensions last have a lot to do with how they are maintained, including

washing and drying as well as combing brushing and styling. Ideally micro ring extensions should not be washed more than twice a week.

- be sure to rinse out all the shampoo and conditioner you use.
